Thankful Thursday

We have a new member of our family to be thankful for.  He is a lot hairier than the rest of us.  His name is Watson and he is our new doggie.  He is such a sweetie and we love him already.  He is the perfect combination of playful puppy and cuddly teddy bear.  Incidentally, he is called a Teddy Bear dog - his breed (a Shihtzu/ Bishon Frise mix called "Shichon").  He doesn't shed (a must for us) and he is small (another preference).  He is currently not even 4.5 lbs and will likely only reach 10-12 lbs.

Having a dog is much like having a newborn/toddler mix.  You have to watch them closely like a newborn - keeping an eye out for signs he needs to potty, is not feeling well, or is adjusting well.  Also there is the up at night sometimes bit.  But like a toddler, he gets into things he shouldn't and you have to teach him the limits.  But we love him and as Lyman said once after playing in the yard with Watson and collapsing by my side on the grass with a sigh, "Having a dog is AWESOME!"
