Yesterday I twisted the muscles in my back all wonky while holding Ruby and turning to check if she spit up on my shoulder or not. My back hurt something fierce all day and I saw my friend from church at playgroup. She is completing her degree in massage therapy and offered to give me a massage. Later last night I got a delightful massage from her at her house and today I woke up and WALAH - no back pain anymore!
I am thankful today for my friend and her willingness to step up and help me and my poor decrepit body out on last notice. I am also thankful for the amazing creation our bodies are. When I felt my pain in the back it felt like it was the whole back - when she started to ask questions about what movements made it hurt (to decipher what muscles were involved) and when she eventually started to isolate muscles it was amazing how she could push in one muscle and no pain - but then move 1 inch in a different direction and push on a different muscle and boom- pain. I am thankful we live in a time where there is enough known about the human body that people like my friend can go to school and learn which muscles to treat to solve specific pain issues. It's a little like magic.
Speaking of magic - I am thankful that New Moon comes out on DVD in about a week. YIPPEE
