Not exactly the most awesome...

Friday night we watched a movie together as a family.  Afterwards when Lyman was being put to bed by Andy the topic of the orphan on the movie came up.  Now before you pass judgements as to what horrid movie we chose to watch with our children - it was Despicable Me, and it was hilarious.  Anyway, the following conversation occurred - or very close to it.

Lyman: "What is an orphan?
Dad: "Sometimes an accident might happen and both of a kids parents die"
Lyman: "Oh"
Dad: "But you shouldn't worry about that because Mom and I try to be very careful so that we don't have any accidents like that. But if it did happen you would not be an orphan because you would go to live with your Aunt So-in-so [name omitted]."
Lyman: "Okay"
Dad: "We aren't going to let any accidents happen to us because we know we are the most awesome parents for you."
Lyman: "Well not exactly.... because they have a double light saber."  [the they in this case is of course Aunt So-in-so and her family]

It is good to know that if such an unfortunate event should occur as to take both my life and Andy's our son will cope relatively well with his access to a double light saber.  Also its kind of a sad day when you find out you aren't the most awesome set of parents in the eyes of your child.  LOL

Putting the pleasant topic of our deaths aside, we have a new addition to our home and family.  I left Andy to his own devices for the whole day to watch the kiddos while I took off for a day of girl talk and crafts with some friends.  I came home to welcome our new fish, Rachael.  The name came as the first name both Lyman and Corilynn could agree on.  I think it is cute to note that the first choice Lyman had was Alex, the name of his long time favorite girl friend at church.  She also happens to be the only girl Lyman wishes to wed when he -with grunts of 6 yr old displeasure- has to marry.  I have no qualms with my future daughter-in-law, she is super cute.
