Once upon a time there was a mother who needed some rest and relaxation from her long day with the kids. It was St. Patrick's Day and so she decided to tell the kids all about the truth about leprechauns.
She told the kids that Leprechauns love the color green and so they needed to wear green today because St. Patrick's Day was a leprechaun's favorite date. That helped the kids run upstairs and get themselves dressed without having to be told a million times.
Then she told the kids all about how leprechauns looked and showed them pictures of them online. She got them some coloring pages of pictures of leprechauns. That gave her 30 minutes to check her email and transfer the loads of laundry without a million tugs at her shirt interrupting.
Then the mother got such a great idea that would help her really get the break she wanted and needed. She would tell the kids that leprechauns only came if they were sleeping. Since we all know that to be a fact - it required the kids to both take naps (even though the older one usually didn't take one). They were told all about how if they were wearing green and they went to sleep then the leprechaun would leave them gold and candy but if they didn't wear green then they would get tickled and get no gold or candy.
Later in the day when they had forgotten about taking naps and leprechauns but it was the required nap time - that mother slipped into the kitchen and made a little boot footprint potato stamp (stamp made out of cutting a potato to make the required stamp shape) and some homemade green paint (equal parts water and flour and some food coloring) and she used that stamp to walk green footprints across a paper. Then she ran to her kids to show them that the leprechaun tried to come but saw that they were not asleep.
That got them to run upstairs as fast as they could and get in their beds without even a fuss.
Then the mother got the rest and relaxation she needed so very much - but only after she decorated the kitchen table with a footprint trail all over it and of course on their leprechaun pictures (because that meant the leprechaun liked them) and straight to a bowl of candy and gold (or leftover chocolate coins from Christmas). The trail then led off the table and out the back door.
When the mother's oldest son woke up and came down stairs the mother pretended to be just waking up her self from sleeping on the couch and let him discover that the leprechaun had come while he was asleep.
That made the mother realize that all the hours of nap time that provided her the rest and relaxation she wanted couldn't compare to the rejuvenation in motherhood she felt when she saw his wonder and awe at how a REAL leprechaun came to HIS house.

Wow!!!! I am so impressed with your imagination and motivation! Unfortunately, I would have just screamed and bribed my kids into napping--you are my inspiration!!!!
I loved your story today! I wish the puppy and parrot understood how to take naps. Unfortunately with all the crackers and milk bones in the world - it did not work out for me. :0(
Happy St Patty's Day!!
By the way - i cant find that badge - but Im meeting with a chief next week that should be able to supply me with another.
I think this is the coolest idea I may have ever seen, seriously... I can't wait until Julian and Tennyson are old enough to get excited about it! Good Job, major mom points for you KaraLynne. You Rock.

So creative!
That's so cute! Way to go. My husband is an accountant and so I am currently a tax widow. He does come home in the evening so it's not too bad. He's just never home during the day or on weekends. We'll get through it though!
Seriously such a great mom. I am feeling so bad I didn't do anything with my kids.
I wish I was as creative. I'm thinking to myself as I'm reading, "What a great idea, no that's a great idea, no THAT'S the greatest idea!" How do you do it?
So cute! Hmmm, potato stamps, that would have been good. Our leprechaun was a bit bigger (used my fist) and walked lot funnier (haha, I had issues).
