So today I was supposed to go to VITA but it got cancelled and I didnt get the message and so after having already drove 30 min south to the location I decided to pop into the Super Walmart nearby since it is the closest one where I live and look around before drugging back to the car to drive the 30 back home.
40 Minutes later or walk out with a Wii system. Yeah. We had been thinking about getting one for a while now and even priced them online but we were still debating on it since neither Andrew or I feel inclined to "plug" ourselves in and certainly dont like the idea of our kids being hooked to video games but the Wii was different since in the sports part it required interaction. Andrew has played it a couple of times at his brother's house and liked it. I havent ever tried it.
I brought it home and showed Andrew who at first was like - "what!" Then he was like "awesome!" and then he was like "im ok with it if you want to keep it" since I had told him that I would take it back if he agree since we dont spend without talking to eachother. So I debated it in my head and decided to take it back.
My reasoning was that it was a lot to spend on something we werent sure we wanted to use a lot anyway and since I hadnt really tried it out before it sort of couldnt be justified as of yet. It is still an option in the future maybe. There is a video rental place here where you can rent a Wii to try it out for a few nights for pretty cheap so we might do that.
So what do you think? Should I have taken it back or not?

We managed to last 7 years without letting the kids play video games... but then I won an Xbox 360 last July. I managed to leave it wrapped in its box for 5 months until Christmas (with the thought that we might sell it), but finally succumbed to temptation and opened it up and bought Lips (a singstar / karaoke game), and racing steering wheel and pedals with 2 games for Kalani.
We're metering access pretty carefully (weekends only, and 30 minutes or less at a time), but I still don't like seeing the kids turn into zombies while they play!
I think I would've taken it back :)

We figure we will keep our kids from the games as long as we can. Once they are in school I am sure friends will introduce them and I know we can't be without one forever, but we will try to be as long as possible.
I would've taken it back too. I really don't like video games (mostly because of my husband). The Wii is fun, but I doubt I would play it enough to justify the expense.
I'm totally on the other end of everyone else. :) But, I like to go against the grain sometimes. We have a Wii (Tom actually got it for free...but I'm sure we would have bought one eventually). It is something we can all play together, and with the Wii Sports they actually get exercise in the winter. :) We have loved ours. We do monitor the time, but that's just how we are with the computer or TV/movies anyways. They are allowed so much screen time a day, and they can choose how to use it. All of Xander and Ry's friends love to play at our house for it as well....which I love, cuz when they are here I know they are safe.
So, my vote is to splurge and keep it (if you can afford it). Maybe rent it from that guy first and see if you like it. It's been fun for our family. Mario Kart Wii is awesome too. ;)
I think it's fun to play, but I wouldn't ever have time to play. I have never liked the idea of video games, but Chris likes them every once in a while. (i'm so glad that he's not one the ALWAYS be playing- he gets his game out every couple weeks when he has an extra minute) But a couple of my friends have the Wii fit and said it's a super good workout. I've never tried.
Basically I would have done the same thing. I would have bought one and then took it back and then made everyone else make my decision. I have no advice.
The wii is so interactive and so much different then regular video games. We have one - and its so much fun. I dont use it much, but I love watching friends come over and use it. We only take it out every few weeks - but it will last years. The sports games and kids games are much have much more logic and skill. I think its a great tool for kids and young ones to start on.
In the future its a great idea.
Yeah, take it back. Sorry I hate video games. They are fun, but addticting. Connor got Dylan (then 3) a PS2 for his birthday- yeah right! I didn't like it then and I still don't like it. I love that Dylan likes it, but that is ALL he ever wants to do. Our day revolves around his 1 hour a day of it and he cries about having to stop after an hour! Yuck. There are a few benefits but I don't think they weigh up to the cons. Just me!
