Representin' for the taxes, Yo!

Yeah... so yesterday was my first day doing VITA this year again. For those of you who are not familiar with all of the government's acronyms - it stands for volunteer income tax assistance. It is a volunteer based program to help file taxes for people in low income communities. The volunteers still have to study tax law, practice doing taxes and take a qualifying exam. After that they can prepare people's taxes as they come in for their appointment. I did this program last year because I thought it would be useful to know more about taxes for my own family plus I really enjoyed having an opportunity to make sure my brain didn't turn into cheese because I never talked to adults during the day.

Last year in Utah the program was a bit different than the way they run it here in Ohio. Last year I had an assigned day and time to come in (Wed nights 5-9) through April 15th. Here I can pick and choose my times and locations among all the weeks of the tax season and what ever times I want. Andrew was so good last year to sacrifice all of his Wed. nights to allow me to do the taxes and this year he is again being Mr. Mom as for the next couple of weeks I will volunteer for much of the day on my Saturdays.

A funny story about yesterday - several of the people who were volunteers at the VITA here are students at a local college who are required to sign up for this because of some accounting class they are having to take. Others are professors helping out, and the rest work for VITA and are coordinators. I was asked like 5 times yesterday how I came to do taxes or why I decided to volunteer. Was I a student, a professional? The answer: Nope I'm just nerdy about taxes. The best part was that most of the reactions to my answer were like "ahhhh I see" as if it all made sense now. Maybe I radiate tax nerdiness enough that my answer seemed to answer everything they needed to know about me. :)

Anyway it being Sunday today I need to give a shout out to my husband to give him props for his AWESOME talk on obedience at church today. He totally rocked the meeting Howwse! The line outside of the bishop's door after sacrament was like 30 feet long. Talk about call to repentance. Jk Actually he did a really great job and I felt the spirit and learned a lot.
